Was this review helpful to you? If you care more about the grand strategy and love visually impressive spce battles, SotS: Tactical structures include orbital weapons platforms, repair centers, strike craft hangars, and superweapons unique to each playable race; for example, the TEC can build the Novalith Cannon, a giant railgun capable of bombarding distant planets. My first PC gaming experience was with Firefly studio's series Stronghold. Two words for this game "Simply Amazing".

There are many pre-made maps to play, and you can design more of your own, but the random generator is my favorite. Play on a tiny planetary system or across many suns, the game's graphics are very slick, allowing smooth zooming from the galactic level all the way to right down where the action is.

I like the game because while you have the option to micromanage your units, they also have enough AI that most of the time you can let them take care of the nitty-gritty while you concentrate on meta-strategy.

All in all, a whole lot of fun both on single player and multiplayer with tremendous replay value. Was this review helpful to you? It's harder and harder to find games that don't add spyware to your machine or make you "check in" whenever you want to play.

This is one of them. You install it, plug in the key, put the disk back in the package and put the package away in the closet for when you reinstall your OS and have to reinstall your games too. It doesn't even do a disk check.

Beyond trusting their customers, Stardock has really put out a fun game here. The graphics are awesome in that you can scroll out mouse wheel and view 20 star systems with little lines between them, or you can scroll all the way in and watch your enemy's battleship get pounded by your fleet and explode.

The level of tactical control is up to you as well. I usually satisfy myself with sicking my fleet on high-priority targets and letting AI sort out how special weapons are used, but you can turn off the auto-use functions and control that too.

The RPG element of your battleships and carriers leveling up is fun too. You do the normal "expand, mine resources, build army, attack" pattern, but none of it feels terribly hurried. Finally, presumably because this is a trilogy pack and it was released long after the games had been on the market, I haven't run into any bugs, and I haven't even patched it.

I'd totally recommend this to anyone who likes RTS. Two words for this game "Simply Amazing". I am a big fan of RTS games, and the pure scale of this blows every other game out of the water! Okay, so I usually don't go into graphics when I review games, but I feel I have to make special note here.

The pure scale of how far you can zoom in and out amazed me. You can zoom all the way out to full galaxy view or all the way in to the cockpit of a starfighter. Also, you can rotate your view to any angle, so you can view your ships from behind, above, under, in front, from the side The "fun factor" of this game is definitly a If you love building a massive empire over a couple of days to later unleash the fury of your rail gun on your enemy, then you'll love this game.

The learning curve is a little steep, but nothing that a few hours of play can't cure. I will put a caveat here that there is a cheat method for this game Just learn to play the game well. There are a couple of items that you need to be aware of when you buy this game.

First, be prepared to play for awhile. This is not Age of Empires, where you can finish a game in like 3 hours. Secondly, there are 3 games included with this package, but they all install at the same time. If you save a game using the old game not entrenchment, your save file will be corrupt.

This has to do with a patch that the expansion packs add in, and it will mess up your original saves. How do you fix it? Just play the game using Entrenchment My first PC gaming experience was with Firefly studio's series Stronghold.

I loved every minute of it. Lost myself in managing my empire and mastering my troops. I loved Stronghold Crusader and was sadly disappointed with Stronghold 2. I enjoyed the Age of Empire series like every other fan and appreciated other tittles like Empires Dawn of the Modern World.

My wife says I am an addict. I downloaded the demo and WOW!!! I was blown away. I tried the three games for the allowed 90 minutes just to appreciate all its potential. The demo really does no justice to the full version but it does allowed you to make an informed decision.

That's my two cents. I am very pleased with this game and hope you do too. See all 39 reviews. Most recent customer reviews. Published 1 year ago. Same game as this one but with additional contents.. A must play game if u love space game.. There have been quite many new additions to the so-called "4X" genre, many of them being space strategies. And even if Sins of the Solar Empire: Trinity is not the most innovative, it surely is among the best looking ones!

In fact trying to find any element that it might be missing is hardly possible. It seems to have everything a good space strategy needs, yet some more hardcore strategists prefer more complex or micro-management oriented games.

If you care more about the grand strategy and love visually impressive spce battles, SotS: Trinity may be your preferred choice! I cannot think of any other space strategy in which battles are so pleasing to the player's eyes.

And still it's not only a space combat game, but it has all the elements of 4X strategy: If you want your strategy games to look good, try Sins of the Solar Empire: Want to share your opinion of this game with the community?

In Sins of a Solar Empire, the independent Trader Worlds are forced to unite in order to defend themselves from the alien Vasari menace and the return of their exiled brethren, the Advent. The Entrenchment expansion jumps forward 15 years to a time of stalemate between the factions when they fortify the territories they control with powerful starbases, mine fields and advanced defenses.

Diplomacy takes the player to the current day, when the constraint toil of war has taken its heavy toll. Some speak of peace, while others see such initiatives as openings to destroy their enemies through subtler means.

Ironclad Games Genre s: Strategy, Real-Time, Sci-Fi of players: Amazing game play, takes a few to get used to the pace. Had to watch a youtube video on how to effectively start and dominate.

First space civ Amazing game play, takes a few to get used to the pace. First space civ game i have played to date and love it. Just wish there were more factions and random resources and planets.

Solo Gameplay is well developed and random created map option make the playability last long. Interactivity with AI since diplomacy expansion Solo Gameplay is well developed and random created map option make the playability last long.

Interactivity with AI since diplomacy expansion make the game very interesting in Solo. A lot of work on audio make the game very immersive, Music is purely wonderful. If you zoom enough to see the Graphic you will be amazed.

That game don't really need so much detail but they did it so we take it. Some said, their is no strategy in this. But they don't understand the way to play it. You don't even need a bigger army to win. Better fleet mobility can make you win, using mass offensive canon can make you win, build a strategic defensive base near sun can make you win, offering payment other players to attack your enemies can make you win, etc.

Seem trinity a empire sins solar of does come with

Fight epic battles with hundreds of ships on-screen at once, with up to 10, particles firing off in full-out combat. Seamless zoom in and out, from looking at a one-man fighter to viewing your entire empire spanning billions of kilometers of space.

Defend your worlds by constructing massive starbases, deploying deadly minefields, and researching advanced defensive technologies. Bribe or hire pirates to wipe out your opponents, but beware, the pirates gain strength over time and can also be used against you!

Any special multiplayer requirements? The good parts of this game are many, tech trees, diplomacy, ships and variety. The bad part of this game is the lag in longer games. However, I have not encountered a PC that does not experience lag in a long game.

This game is pretty great. I could stop there, and would feel I summed up my feelings pretty well, but let's press on. SoaSE is a pretty great 4X space game with multiplayer. During a game, you'll make and break deals with the other players, secretly put a bounty on their heads, and have gigantic clashes with fleets of ships.

Getting into those big fleet battles and zooming all the way in is pretty great, as well. You get gigantic capital ships slugging it out while hordes of fighters and bombers zip back and forth in a huge display of lasers and explosions.

I've been a fan since the initial release and plan on following this series as long as it goes. Probably the 1st space game that I tried.. In this game you can fight with lots of units and the map is huge..

I usually play on the small to medium maps, even then it will take hours to complete it.. Same game as this one but with additional contents.. A must play game if u love space game.. Through the use of this editor, the player can dictate the number of star systems in their game, the number of planets orbiting each star system, and various other options.

Lastly, the game keeps track of a variety of "achievements", some of which are triggered by ordinary gameplay actions such as winning as a specific race or collecting enough resources, or by winning with voluntary restrictions such as without building capital ships, frigates, cruisers, or strike craft.

Ironclad has released three main expansions, which are available on Ironclad's website and Stardock 's digital distribution service, Impulse. In addition, the base game and the first two expansions are available in a combination package entitled Sins of a Solar Empire: If not, the features are disabled for the multiplayer game.

On August 29, , Ironclad and Stardock announced Entrenchment. On August 26, , the second expansion was announced. Diplomacy expands the diplomatic element of the game, [14] allowing players more control over alliances and making diplomatic victory possible, as well as offering incentives for peace and cooperation including pacts which provide economic, research, and military bonuses between factions.

Diplomacy was released on February 9, ; the Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity combination package was also released on the same day. On March 1, , Rebellion — the game's third expansion, and first full stand-alone expansion — was announced.

Rebellion also includes an updated graphical engine. Exactly one year from the announcement, the beta was made available for pre-order customers without prior warning. Rebellion was officially released on June 12, , [16] and includes all previously released content.

The British video game developer Rebellion Developments has been opposing the use of "Rebellion" in the name of the game since due to trademark law. Three downloadable content packs have been released for Rebellion.

Forbidden Worlds was released on June 5, , and adds four new planet types and new colonization options. Stellar Phenomena was released on November 6, , and adds interstellar hazards such as black holes, pulsars, coronal mass ejections and neutron stars, which have various impacts on combat and exploration.

Sins of a Solar Empire has met with generally positive reviews and received several awards. The game holds an aggregate score of Much praise for the game has been directed towards the game's clever blend of RTS and 4X gameplay, the seamless zoom function, and the user-friendly Empire Tree and UI.

That the game was designed to play efficiently on older as well as newer PCs has garnered considerable praise. Criticism has been focused on the lack of a single-player campaign, sporadic game crashes when played online, and the potentially lengthy game-play times.

Unfortunately, devs forgot to put little thing called FUN into this mix. There is no fun in battles in this game, you have close to zero ability to lead your troops, it's all about number of ships and specific ships countering each other, not frantic micromaganement like RTS should be - Looks like a game developed not 5, not 10, but 15 YEARS AGO; the graphics are absolutely terrible and detract from the experience with ugly UI and overflowing pixels - Annoying soundtrack that you want to turn off as soon as you start it - It just lacks juicy stuff: This probably worked well on paper, but it seems nobody really thought that idea through.

No idea what is up with effects being so bad, but Homeworld 2 which is a ish game looks and sounds way way better. I struggled through 50 hours looking for the magic. You know, once a game gets to the point where you hover over Hmmm You know, once a game gets to the point where you hover over it, hesitating to start it up, you know all is lost.

It certainly intrigued me to explore and look around in the initial games but it got very old, very quickly. In essence, extend out as fast as you can, identify and secure chokepoints, hold until tech and resources build up, build a blob and win.

Couple of losses needed to learn the AI and bingo. Too simple and too slow. Not even going to bother with Rebellion. Battles are all the same, playing few or many planets. No strategy is needed as the player with the most and biggest ships No story line.

No strategy is needed as the player with the most and biggest ships wins. Diplomacy or culture influence is not needed. For young and mentally less develop player. More a first person shooting than strategy game. Does not even come close to Homeworld, Nexus and other space strategy games.

A big manual with an interesting background story, some tutorials to be more confident with the "complexity" of the game Economical, social and trading dimensions are totally are useless and obfuscated by the endless battles, and the baddest point of all is obviously that trying to put some strategy in combats is nearly impossible:

Good pickup in the bargain bin. Works on Windows 10 bit without any patching. Fairly deep RTS game. If you know X3 series, this is far less involved. If you know HomeWorld 2, this is more involved. Age of Empires is space.

Audio, especially voice acting and the music is terrible. Also, you can't control your forces in combat; they just stand there toe to toe and duke it out. The winner of any combat is simply the one with more hit points. Combat has no strategy other than where and when.

It would have been better if the forces could be moved around a little. Three unique factions each have a rich and diverse array of abilities that create a nice balance of strengths and weaknesses. In addition, choose your strategy to win: All are viable, none are a sure bet.
