Postal 2 - Share the Pain - Thursday [3/3]

The Dude proceeds through several missions including assignments from his former employers, Running with Scissors, encounters with mad cow tourette zombiesas well as confrontations with terrorists and the military. Fight for the fabulous Postal Babes! Customers who bought this item also bought. No fun for the skilled player when he's surrounded by darting children-sized people. Truthfully, Postal 2's content wasn't far in excess of what you could find on a typical episode of South Park.

Paradise Lost as an Easter egg. The game's levels are split into days of the week starting Monday and finishing Friday. So in other words, this game resembles a bit of GTA, but without the cars, but with the exception that in this game the violence is extreme, almost unrealistic with a proper mod, you can dismember your enemies, and even dogs and cats can be brutally murdered Both are intentionally highly controversial due to high levels of violence and stereotyping. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. It was fun when it first came out. It's a little glitchy and the story is not that well put together. This game is a blast, they refuse to sell it in my local stores because the humor involved is dark and definetly probably not something you'd want your ten year old playing.

The game starts off with a trailer park resident dealing with his dead Pinto lol and beating the neighbors mean dog with a shovel, like I said dark humor, not for kids. You can walk around the game with your fly open and get comments from passersby about the door being open and choose to wip it out and pee on your opponent too.

The people that wrote this are definetly of the off color humor set You find assault weapons in the local insane asylum and there are more than a few pokes at the Taliban and the situation in the middle east One of the more silly parts of the game is the use of cats as silencers on rifles I suppose some cat lover is outraged right now.

This game is a riot but it's not for the kids. I was not entirely sure what to expect from this game. After playing it I think I am able to understand the vast difference of opinions. Postal 2 is not for the faint of heart.

This game purposefully sets out to be as offensive and politically incorrect as possible. If dousing a cop in gasoline, lighting her on fire, urinating on her to put out the fire, and then decapitating her with a shovel as she tries to crawl away, in too much pain to walk or run because she has 4th degree burns across her entire body, does not sound like fun then this game is not for you.

While it is true that much of what makes Postal 2 good rests on it being "offensive", I also enjoyed the freedom the game offers you. Other than that it is a decent FPS with ok graphics.

In my opinion it is mostly the content that makes this game such a blast. I highly recommend it, however I can understand how one could find this game either disturbing or unamusing. I personally am quite fond of the pedestrians in the game, they actually will scream if you pull out a gun at them, and wont exactly feel comfortable if you point it at them and tell them to "get the fxck down" like the people in grand theft auto seem to be ok with.

As The Postal Dude that's actually his name, you're tasked with completing a series of mundane errands over the course of a work week. You may attempt to complete these errands conventionally--for example, on Monday all you need to do is collect your paycheck, cash it, and then buy a carton of milk--but you'll probably end up resorting to violence, and not just because you can.

As the week goes on, certain factions will automatically get on Dude's bad side, so going through the game without killing anybody becomes practically impossible after a while. Also, the freedom to explore the town of Paradise is undermined somewhat by the loading times that crop up in between relatively small sections of town.

Again, these are shorter and definitely more tolerable than before, which makes the game less frustrating to play, but you'll still find yourself plotting routes through town that require you to go through as few of these transitions as possible.

Mechanically, Postal 2 plays like a straightforward first-person shooter. There's a pretty conventional array of weapons to collect, and you don't even have to worry about reloading these, though you'll instead need to be careful about brandishing them in public unless you intend to use them.

Some of the later weapons are more interesting, such as the napalm launcher and, everyone's favorite, the diseased cow head. But the citizens of Paradise never pose much of a challenge and are usually content to just stand there and get their heads blown off.

Some rag-doll physics and even a Max Payne 2-style slow-motion power-up an effect that Postal 2 did first, for what it's worth can make the gory action entertainingly over-the-top for a while, but it's probably too simple to hold anyone's interest for long.

Postal 2 is mostly just an excuse to set up a lot of goofy, purposely offensive gags, and some of these can be funny, while many of them fall flat. The Postal Dude himself, for instance, has the voice of a radio disc jockey, and he sounds out of place as he forces cusswords out at every opportunity.

On the other hand, when he's out looking for the perfect Christmas tree or trying to get Paradise citizens to sign a political petition or a few other such occasions, you might get a laugh. At any rate, you could easily finish Postal 2's entire single-player portion in a weekend or even in a day, though some cheat codes and multiple difficulty settings are available to implore you to give it another whirl.

Share the Pain adds a few new areas and a couple of new, higher difficulty modes to the single-player portion of the game, but these don't really do much to extend its value. The four different multiplayer modes honestly don't do much to extend the game's value, either, largely because not many people are playing them.

Still, a built-in server browser theoretically makes it easy to hop into an online session, and if you host a game session, you can throw in some computer-controlled bots which the game calls "morons" if you want more targets to shoot at.

Your main modes here are conventional deathmatch, team deathmatch, and a capture-the-flag variant called "snatch," in which the "flag" is a scantily clad woman who piggyback rides on whomever picks her up.

Snatch and team deathmatch seem to be the most popular modes, relatively speaking, whereas the "grab" mode, in which players battle to collect a series of power-ups, doesn't seem to be much of a draw. There are more than a dozen different multiplayer maps, all seemingly based on areas from the single-player game, and while most of the maps are pretty basic, they're reasonably varied, and a few stand out.

Also, a few of Postal 2's more-unusual gameplay features, such as the ability to urinate on anything at any time and the ability to commit suicide by detonating a grenade in one's mouth at the touch of a button, can actually come into play during multiplayer, lending the action a decidedly different tone than what you may be used to.

Postal 2 is about as offensive and funny as a typical episode of South Park. Postal 2 still looks quite good, at least when you're running around outdoors, and the game's characters have a decent range of expressions and animations.

Plus, in classic Duke Nukem 3D style, there are lots of sight gags to be found. Indoors, the game doesn't look as attractive, and here you'll notice that the level architecture is very simple and a lot of texture maps are overused.

Not that it really matters. The game's audio is also rather mixed, since not only does The Postal Dude just not sound right, but a lot of the game's weapons sound rather underpowered, which is surprising for a game that features plenty of gratuitous violence.

Also, there's almost no music in Postal 2, so you'll often be running around in relative silence. Moral judgments aside, Postal 2: Share the Pain certainly isn't a bad game. It at least tries to put a slightly original twist on first-person shooters by letting you explore and open fire at your leisure, and there's simply a lot of stuff to see in Paradise.

The multiplayer portion of Share the Pain is OK, too, though it probably would have had more of an impact had it been included with the original version of Postal 2. In fact, it may seem strange to put it this way, but Postal 2: Share the Pain is the game that Postal 2 probably should have been in the first place.

The review originally stated that the multiplayer content of Postal 2: Share the Pain was available as a free download to owners of the original Postal 2 game, which is incorrect. GameSpot regrets the error. Upvote 3 Leave Blank.

Other Platform Reviews for Postal 2 4. Postal 2 More Info. You're Good to Go!

Postal 2 had its share of problems, but one of the major ones was a complete lack of multiplayer. This didn't hurt other open-ended, over-the-top action games like Grand Theft Auto 3 , but that was mostly because GTA3 was a shiny game experience all by itself.

Postal 2 , however, featured poor AI, too much running around, debilitating performance issues, long load times, and a few other things. Share the Pain reduces the load time issue, but everything else is pretty much unchanged.

In addition to multiplayer, Share the Pain load times have been squeezed down to about seconds per level on a mid-range system. If you like to wander around and take your time doing all kinds of horrible things to people, then it's not much of an issue.

But if you're objective-oriented and want to get directly to your next task, it is a bit less painful this time around. STP also added a couple extra areas and a new missile launcher, and a couple extra difficulty levels, but it's still Postal 2 at its core.

If you liked the first one, you'll like these new additions, as the Tora Bora area is quite large and fairly well-designed, although when you're done you have to go all the way back through it to get to town.

The new weapon, "Weapon of Mass Destruction," is a missile launcher that creates an explosion of toxic gas, spreading in the same manner as fire, and it seems to smolder on a corpse indefinitely. This combination quickly creates a field of dead bodies, which you may find cool or unsettling, depending on your tastes.

Performance still lags sometimes, though, even on a high-end system with a P4 3. You can scale down the view distance, the number of people and corpses, and decals bullet holes and other damage, but when you really wreak some havoc, things will start to chug to the point of unusability.

You can use the Performance Wizard to optimize your settings, but it's not a complete solution. Besides, who wants to turn off something as important-sounding as "World Detail"? Plus, it was impossible to successfully set hardware accelerated audio.

Paradise Lost as an Easter egg. Paradise Lost [4] is an extension for Postal 2 , announced for Steam at E3 with a teaser trailer. Paradise Lost takes place 12 years after Apocalypse Weekend, the Postal Dude awakens from his year radioactive-induced coma, the same amount of time between Postal 2 's release and the release of Paradise Lost, only to find his dog Champ is missing and has to go back to his home town of Paradise, which is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Paradise Lost also retcons Postal III as it was revealed that the events of that game were just a nightmare dream that the Postal Dude had during his coma. They attempt to help him find Champ. Near the end of the game, Dude has to go to Hell and battle Champ and his now-ex-wife, who has turned into a demon.

Returning to Earth, he finds out that all the factions have gone to war and gives himself a choice: Eventually, he and Champ leave Paradise for the last time. Postal 2 Complete is an online compilation containing Postal 2: The Linux version available from Desura was newly updated for its release on the digital distribution platform.

In, the Office of Film and Literature Classification New Zealand banned Postal 2 , citing high levels of violent content and animal violence. The game received additional negative publicity following the September 13, , Dawson College shooting incident in Montreal [ citation needed ].

Media coverage regarding the shooter, Kimveer Gill, indicated that he played violent video games. Postal 2 was cited as one of these games, although some coverage by CTV erroneously stated that the game was only available for sale in the United Kingdom.

Regarding his views on the subject, Linux and Macintosh developer Ryan C. Gordon, who ported the game to those platforms, stated that he feels that the game holds a mirror to the worst aspects of modern society, saying in an interview that the game is a "brilliant caricature of our mangled, disconnected, fast-food society, disguised as a collection of dirty jokes and ultraviolence.

Because you can play Postal 2 in the most violent and graphic way, but you can also play it without hurting a single person. I don't know anyone who's played it like that, but I like that the people who made Postal are saying you can get through this game without any violence.

On the review aggregator GameRankings, Postal 2 received an average score of Postal 2 became Linux Game Publishing 's fastest selling game in its first month, and contributed greatly to the continuing profitability of the company.

In Sweden, the attorney general took the Swedish distributor of the game to court. He was prosecuted with "illegal depiction of violence", a crime falling under the Swedish freedom-of-speech act.

The court dismissed the case on December 12, Given its pedigree, it's almost as much a political product as it is a game product. While it may not seem apparent to some, particularly the 'politicians', there is merit to Postal 2 beyond just gross out excess, something akin to, dare I say, the art house indie flicks in the film industry.

Controversial statements and taboo material - those are unequivocal 'yes'es for Postal 2, and Running with Scissors manages to throw in plenty of mindless fun with it as well. Although acknowledged as an adaptation of the first Postal game, the film adaptation of the same title directed by Uwe Boll borrows many elements from Postal 2 , including the Krotchy doll, the trailer park, the cat silencer, The Lucky Ganesh convenience store, the terrorists, and Uncle Dave and his compound, among others.

Gary Coleman was not involved in this film; instead Verne Troyer, appearing as himself, fulfilled Coleman's function in the movie. In, Boll announced the second film. On August 28, Boll finally announced he was funding production of Postal 2 through Kickstarter, but the project was cancelled on October 5.
