The Tree of Life contains a complete walkthrough of this sometimes quite demanding game. Sylvie Leroux receives a proposition of working for a museum in Brittany. After arriving there, she learns that her predecessor has died in mysterious circumstances and many people are interested in the 17th century chest that he was researching, with count Saint-Germain among them.

The controls in the second Chronicles of Mystery are the same as in the first game. You move following an arrow-shaped pointer, a big arrow indicates a new location. The items which you can use or interact with are marked with a hand pointer and those at which you can only look - with an eye.

Double clicking the left mouse button causes the character to run and double clicking the big arrow speeds up changing locations. You can skip cutscenes with Esc and dialogues with the left mouse button.

After moving the pointer to the top of the screen, a menu will appear. The last option is important, as it contains the dialogues Sylvia had, items she obtained and her diary. The inventory is at the bottom of the screen.

After clicking on one of the findings with the right mouse button, you will get a zoom and a commentary, sometimes containing some clues. Rarely will you have to do something with the object while in zoom mode. At the lower right corner of the screen there is a question mark whish reveals all the important items and passages in a given location.

The items which should land in your inventory are marked green, as the riddle solutions - red. There are two moments in the game during which you have a time limit. I will warn you about the first one and suggest saving the game.

During the second one Sylvie can die, but the game will automatically save. Trying to accomplish a task with only seconds on the clock can be pretty tedious but the built-in help system really helped! Just remembering to "keep at it" and "take a breather" when it starts to get taxing is the key.

Story - The story starts out with you, an archaeologist made somewhat famous for writing a book based on your adventures in the first game, being asked asked to examine a chest full of relics thought to be very valuable. Once you have examined it, though, you have to rush off to talk about your new book, where you soon find out that you have to go somewhere else in order to talk to a mysterious count.

That may sound confusing and not much like a story, but you really just seem to run from one place to another the entire game, and you never really finish what you are doing at one place before you are leaving for another.

It can get quite confusing, and, like I said before, it was very disjointed. Gameplay - The "Chronicles of Mystery" series is a third person, point-and-click adventure series. You walk around a certain location, pick up random items, use these items to interact with other items, and talk to the people at the location.

It's very straightforward and not complicated to get used to at all. You can skip through the conversations if they are going to slowly for you, but you will probably still enjoy them since the characters are often unique and fun to talk to.

I found there to be a lag in the game about halfway through, but I do not think it was my personal copy, though, because my game worked perfectly the first half. Puzzles - The puzzles turned out to be largely inventory-based, which was a huge downfall.

You would usually have to find a tiny, tiny hotspot hidden from view, and you are expected to place an item on that barely noticeable hotspot. I was forced to use a walkthrough at several points, much to my shame, but I never would have known what to do otherwise since these hotspots were so incredibly inconspicuous.

The only in-game hint system that there is would be this question mark button you can push that will put a question mark on top of items to look at, items to pick up, or locations to walk to. It did not help with finding the mini hotspots, though.

Besides the inventory puzzles, there were a few timed puzzles and a couple of logic puzzles, but the majority of the puzzles had to do with the many inventory items you pick up in this game. The cutscenes were amazing as were the backgrounds, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the locations.

The music was also very nicely done; there was a wide variety of music tracks which allowed me to not get bored of the same song playing time and time again. The voice acting was just so-so, unfortunately. Most of the characters did not sound like the actual character would sound like.

For instance, it sounded like an adult male was voicing the character of a young boy, which was slightly disturbing. Overall - All in all, this is an OK game. The story is confusing as are the puzzles, and, also, my game had a funky lag in the second half.

However, the graphics and music were enjoyable, and I really did enjoy playing through the game. I would recommend it if you are hard pressed for a relatively good adventure game, or if you really, really liked the first game and want a follow up to it.

Such depth and intensity is well worth five-plus stars. All of the Chronicles of Mystery are life-like and 3-D and seems like you have jumped into an interactive novel especially when several escape scenes must be completed within a certain time frame.

It's better than a movie because you are part of it and you need to finish all tasks to see the incredible ending. I love long files because they are out of the extraordinary with difficult challenges no seen in regular games. Don't feel bad if you have to look for help in a walk-through site because sometimes even with the walk-through you have to accomplish a lot on your own to finish the tasks.

But, what happened to Sylvie Laroux at the end? Now THIS is what an adventure game should be! This is not an extremely difficult game to play. You play an archeologist who investigates an antique chest and that leads you to different parts of the world and into a story that is fascinating.

There is quite a bit of conversation between your characters so be prepared for some reading. At first it was a little disappointing at the amount of conversation, but then it just becomes part of the story and helps to relate to the characters.

There is even some humor and funny situations fountain in Venice, actually made me chuckle. It has some length, I played several hours a day and it lasted for days. I hope you will try to play. BFG also has a walkthrough, and there will be times you will probably need to refer to it, I did.
