In general the sound is well-done, and the voice acting is no exception. The lines are well-written and - delivered. You can save at any time and place, and there are checkpoints. There are few bothersome bugs, they tend to be glitches, and the stability doesn't leave terribly much to be desired.

The action scenes read more like a summary of facts at a court appearance than anything else. It was very difficult to suspend disbelief and the Dark Judges themselves lacked the ingredients necessary to be truly inspiring villains.

Dredd is in desperate need of modernisation much like what was done with the Batman to bring him into the 21st Century. The transition from cartoon character to the brooding vigilante who struggles with his own demons as well as the villains he faces has ensured the Batman's future.

Dredd and Anderson need the same remedial work. I am a big fan of the Judge Dredd genre and enjoyed this book. It is not the next War and Peace but for a quick, summertime read, this book easily fills the void. This is a review of the PC version, since I haven't played a single other release of it. I have had next to no exposure to this universe, so I can't say how well this fares when held up to the comics.

This plays like your typical FPS, with the addition of the well-implemented feature of Arresting perps. While you are technically free to attack anyone you want, you are here to serve the justice system, and there is a meter that lets you see how good a job you're doing.

Not every crime warrants the criminal's execution, it is possible to shoot the weapon out of the enemies' hands, and you can sometimes avoid violence altogether. The graphics are fairly well-done, with smooth animations and with nifty physics, it genuinely makes an impact where on the foes' body you hit meanwhile, it wouldn't hurt if it didn't take as little as it does to send them flying, because that does get to looking silly in this.

All of the cut-scenes are in-engine, and they're well-scripted. The atmosphere is captured reasonably well, of the futuristic, bleak, dystopian setting. There is morbid dark comedy in this. The satire isn't always equally subtle.

I am not the right person to say whether or not the plot fits with the graphic novels. This is hardly ever genuinely scary, but I'm not certain it was meant to be. The AI is decent, they take cover and all.

NPC's get "stuck", occasionally. The game-play is fun. There are no items apart from ammo, guns and the med-kits which you can carry up to three of total, and are used automatically when you run out of health; in addition, you have self-repairing armor, and there are hardly any puzzles.

This is also a rather short game. Story mode isn't the only one, fortunately, and the better you do on it, the more Arcade levels there are and those are nicely unique from each other.

There are a lot of unlockables models and cheats, in both, and they are determined by the rank that you receive, which, in turn, is based on how well you did on the specific mission. They are essentially entirely linear and don't always do a lot to hide it.

The game is played from a first person perspective. The singleplayer campaign is made up of eleven levels in which the player takes the role of Judge Dredd and battles a series of criminals and undead vampires. Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty levels are available, as well as a cooperative mode.

The game features a 'law meter' which gauges the player's adherence to the laws of Mega-City One. This is depleted by firing on those who have not fired first, failing to challenge enemies before firing and firing upon civilians or criminals who have given up.

When the meter is depleted entirely the game is over. Completing singleplayer levels also unlocks at least one playable multiplayer character or map, depending on the player's performance. The game also features arcade and multiplayer mode.

In the arcade mode, the player must complete various challenges, earning cheat codes for each one completed with a high rank. There are 12 arcade challenges to complete. In the multiplayer mode, players compete with up to 3 friends, and up to 12 computer-controlled players in a deathmatch game.

Online play is only available in the Windows version of the game. Mega-City One is filled with million people, each holding the potential for criminal activity. Judge Dredd is the city's law enforcer, respected by all Judges and feared by all crooks.

The Psi Judges sense a horrible plague approaching the city, and the Dark Judges are their prime suspects. The release of viruses that change the host into a "Vampire" or a "Zombie" is blamed on Dr. Icarus and Judge Death.

Judge Dredd is forced to fight the insane Dr. Icarus who almost becomes immortal, his original plan was to find a way to become immortal, not make vampires and the Dark Judges. The last time Dredd fights Death, Death uses Icarus's immortal body to fight Dredd, but is ultimately defeated and Death flees into Judge Anderson's body, who had been held there against her will.

Gordon Rennie wrote a Dredd vs. The novel alters the storyline somewhat in that certain events which in the game happened to Dredd are given to other judges such as Judge Giant and Anderson. Galen DeMarco also plays a prominent role.

A total waste of a fantastic licence - incredibly anti-climactic, a mere six hours long, full of uninspired levels and identikit enemies, and achingly tedious to play. Once finished I had to quickly uninstall it lest I ever accidentally clicked on that hateful icon again.
