Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Report abuse. Now I'm a die hard Harry Potter fan, and I love the lego games. I think they're hours of fun, and I wanted to experience that with my wii! Wave a wand, try a spell, make a little magic myself.

However, that apparently was not the case. I went through two different copies of this game for the wii, and both would not work in either my wii or my wii U. I would get to the menu screen, it would load but take no button input.

There were still bugs in the game, but they were much easier to work around, especially on a computer. However, I will never trust the wii version, and I'm still incredibly disappointed since I adore my wii. Not a scratch on either disk, every game works perfectly in both my wii and wii U, there's no reason why this game shouldn't have been working.

Maybe my systems just have a different taste in games than I, but who knows? I was quite pleased and had a smile on within the first 5 minutes of game play. It's a very cute game, has it's comical moments, while still staying true to the Harry Potter story itself.

I enjoy listening to the background music in this game as well because it comes straight from the movie itself, unlike other past Harry Potter games I have played that insert their own music.

I'll admit that the controls are a little funny to get used to at first, but I quickly caught on to how it all works and it is now second nature to me. You use both the wii remote and nunchuck to play this game.

Overall, this game is a must for Harry Potter and Lego game fans. I would highly recommend this game. It is a lot of fun. I decided to bump this from 5 stars to 4 stars. Why, you may ask? Well, I ran into a glitch that caused me a lot of problems.

I got to a part in my game where I had to use magic to put lego pieces together in order to continue on with the story. Well, one of the lego pieces got stuck and continually disappeared, then reappeared, then disappeared, and then reappeared over and over and over again!

I in turn kept attempting to use my magic to move the puzzle piece, but it kept disappearing too quickly to give me a chance to fix the glitch! I then quit the game and tried going back in a second time to see if it would go back to normal, but the glitch was apparently saved, so that was no help at all.

At first I thought I had to start all over again, which angered me to no end because I was pretty far into the game. What I did instead was repeated another level from start to finish.

Amazingly, this fixed the glitch. I replayed a previous level I had already beaten, and then when I went back to the level with the glitch I realized it disappeared!! I was finally able to continue! It's unfortunate that I have to knock off a star due to a glitch problem, but it does ruin the fun when you have to replay another level just to fix a problem with the game.

If it wasn't for glitches I would have kept it at 5 stars. The control functions of the game are also I play this with my 6 year old who is now on book 4. She recognizes the storyline and challenges of the levels which are linear and progress.

Either it was so simple that I found it boring, or so complex that she found it frustrating, or we were competing against each other so I couldn't really 'play' without winning every time, or one of us was completely uninterested in the premise, etc.

But we've read the early HP books together, and built stuff with Legos together, so this game seemed to have potential. In the first level, The Leaky Cauldron, Harry can't use magic yet because he doesn't have a wand but Hagrid can since he is an experienced wizard.

All Harry is able to do is smash objects by rolling into them until he learns his first spell at Hogwarts. There are many areas to explore, including the Great Hall, the covered bridge, Gryffindor and Slytherin common rooms, the courtyard, the quidditch field, Hagrid's hut, and more.

Players can go to classes to learn new spells to advance to new areas in Hogwarts. An example would be if an area is covered by Mandrakes, the player might not be able to get to that place in Year 1, but after the player has covered that Herbology lesson, the player can get through there because they have learned how to get past them.

Potion-making is another vital gameplay feature. If there is a cauldron nearby the player must collect the right ingredients to put in it. If the player collects the right ones, they will get a reward or advance in the level.

If they get it wrong they could likely be turned into a frog. As with all schools, there are other students at Hogwarts who they can practice their defensive spells on. For instance, in the Gryffindor common room the player might find a student sleeping on a couch.

Zap the couch and the child is eaten up and then belched out. But they can't do this with just anyone. Zap Professor Snape and the player might be turned into a frog again. The moving pictures on the walls can usually be zapped to help the player, and many other things in Hogwarts can be enlisted to help the player as well, usually quite comically.

I though these would be silly little games for young children but a friend suggested I play them simply because they take the HP movies and then add lego jokes that are little twists on what really happens in the movies.

They're fun and easy enough that I don't feel like I am terrible while I play. They are easy to beat so if you are looking for a challenge you can switch to the normal HP games on PS and Wii. But these are for children and adults like me who enjoy the series but hate getting stuck on the harder games and never end up beating them after months of trying.

The best part for me is that you can go back on each level and replay to get the added bonus items, tasks etc. So even after you beat the main game it turns into more of a quest game and a brain game which I also enjoyed.
