Reduce interruptions In previous versions, Windows was often able to tell you when something on your computer needed attention. Unfortunately, it often did so by interrupting you with pop-ups or other messages. These were helpful if the problem required immediate attention.

Rather than popping up with a message in the lower right of your screen, if Windows 7 needs your attention, you'll see an Action Center icon and can find out more by clicking it. If you don't have time to look at the alert immediately, Action Center will keep the information waiting for you to address later.

Action Center will keep the information waiting for you to address later. Windows 7 helps you solve more problems, and it helps you solve them on your own schedule. The Action Center is a new, integrated Control Panel experience that gives you a central place to go for tasks and notifications associated with keeping your computer running smoothly.

It makes it easier for you to fix problems yourself by providing a new streamlined experience for addressing notifications and managing computer issues. Simplifying maintenance, quieting the system: Action Center consolidates notifications.

Easier TV, movies, and video With a streamlined user interface and support for new content types and digital TV, Windows Media Center in certain editions of Windows 7 makes watching TV, movies, and other video content on your PC easier than ever.

Windows Media Center has been updated to manage a single TV guide containing both standard and digital high definition TV shows. Quickly browse recorded TV shows. You'll be able to find your favorite shows super-fast with new features such as turbo scroll.

Just hold down the right-arrow key and you'll zip through content listings. TV, music, pictures, and video Streaming media in your home - One of the great things about PCs is how they help you put your pictures, videos, recorded TV, and music in one place.

Once everything is in that spot, it's natural to want to enjoy it on other PCs and devices in your home. Windows 7 helps you do it. It'd be great to just "send" music from your PC to the place where you want to see or hear it.

It's called streaming, and Windows 7 makes it easy to use your PC to stream music, videos, or photos to your home audio-video system and other networked media devices. New media streaming features make your PC a great hub for audio, video, recorded TV, and photos throughout your home.

So, when you set up a home group or media streaming from Windows Media Player, you can enjoy your music, pictures, and videos easily on other computers running Windows 7 and other devices in your home.

Share your media without losing control. Let's say you're sitting on your couch, using your laptop to read e-mail or surf the web. With Windows 7, you don't have to. Just open Windows Media Player, right-click on what you'd like to hear, select Play To, and you'll see a list of devices and PCs on which you can play your music, like your network-connected stereo or Xbox In most cases, if your media receiver doesn't support the file format for your media, Windows 7 automatically converts that content into a format that your media receiver can play.

Windows Media Player even offers controls to manage that device, such as play, stop, and skip tracks so your PC becomes your remote control. Play media on your home audio system. Remote Media Streaming Once you've got your pictures, music, videos, and recorded TV content on your home PC, it'd be nice to take it with you, say on a family vacation.

But you may not have time to download what you want onto your laptop or other media player. But, if your home PC and your laptop use Windows 7, then you can use the entertainment on your home PC from pretty much wherever you can connect to the Internet.

You can use Windows Media Player on your laptop to listen to music, and view pictures, videos, or recorded TV, in the media libraries on your home PC. No need to take all your photos with you: Windows Live Essentials provides some features that were previously included in Windows Vista and other Windows operating systems, like programs to:.

With these great applications you can get even more out of Windows 7. Windows Live Photo Gallery. Windows Touch While great for a lot of tasks, using a keyboard and mouse is not always the easiest way to do things. With Windows 7, if you've got a touch-screen monitor, you can just touch your computer screen for a more direct and natural way to work.

Use your fingers to scroll, resize windows, play media, and pan and zoom. The Start menu, Windows Taskbar, and Windows Explorer are touch-friendly, with larger icons that are easier to select with your finger.

You can even use your finger to arrange the pictures in a photo album. Windows 7 also introduces support for new multi-touch technology, so you can control what happens on the screen with more than one finger.

For example, you can zoom in on an image by moving two fingers closer together, like you're pinching something, or zoom out by moving two fingers apart. You can rotate an image on the screen by rotating one finger around another, and can right-click by holding one finger on your target and tapping the screen with a second finger.

Best operating system ever. I do not like window 8 nor window I installed window 10 and it did not work, so I had to reload window 7. The purchase of this software was an excellent choice as I have an older laptop and certainly do not need Windows 8.

I was pleased with the product. It's supposed to have a free upgrade to win 10 but there are no details as to how that is supposed to work so that you can get upgrade. This was by far the easiest operating system install I've ever done on a PC.

It did take quite a while, but went pretty smooth. Of course, I had to chase down drivers and stuff like that, but my old computer stayed online and connected to my home network throughout the process. Was this review helpful to you? This is a perfect solution to a frustrating problem. Several of our family members for whom I have purchased computers in the past have occasionally run into problems that require reinstallation of the original OS.

Unfortunately, they have also failed to safeguard recovery disks and have not been cautious about saving recovery points. The good side is that those computers all have Microsoft authenticity stickers with the OS license key, and drivers can generally be downloaded from the hardware manufacturer.

So this terrific solution helps me to recover their computers to a safely working state. In addition, I had occasion to contact the seller with a question, and they he was prompt, courteous, and helpful in responding to my query.

Amazon Inspire Digital Educational Resources. It is also only supposed to be installed on a single system - as it binds to the motherboard of the system its installed on. However, I've successfully installed my copy on 3 different builds now core 2 duo, phenom II, i7 with no problems.

Worst case you just call Microsoft and deal with an auto prompter giving you long key codes to validate it again. Obviously though you can only have it installed on one PC at any given time. Can't find your answer?

Choose Pro if you need compatibility with xp, home premium if not Not sure about recovery disks question. No difference than a retail version. Retail offers limited tech support. Depending on where you buy, OEM may require hardware purchase.

Whichever you buy, make sure you get the full version, not the upgrade. As far as I know, re-installation is fine, unless you're replacing your motherboard AND hard drive. If you need to install to a new HD and mobo, well, you still might be able to do it, but expect to go through hell and back to get it working with the 'help' of mircosoft costumer support.

A limited number of installations, however, you can install to multiple PCs but only one at one time. So say, if your uberGamerRig is hit by a meteorite, and you build a new one, you can install your copy of retail windows on it.

AFAIK, there is no other difference besides the type of license you get. Retail can be reinstalled, even on a new PC. Also, it's technically illegal to put an OEM version of windows on a PC you're not building yourself. Although who the hell is going to do anything about it if you install it on your dell?

The OEM copy does tie itself to the mobo if you get a new mobo you need a new copy at least that's what microsoft tells you but really you can just call them and they'll reactivate it for you. In addition to what Nerdbox 87 said, OEM is only the bit that you purchase.

The full retail version has 32 and 64 bit included. Not really a problem though if you bought the 64bit OEM. Wow, thanks for all the rapid responses! Here is my situation. I am currently running Windows 7 x86 Bit on my first build.

It came with two disks in the package 32 bit and 64 bit so I assume I have the retail version. My second build is sitting - still in boxes - on the floor behind me. I want to install a x64 version of Windows onto my "new" computer but with my "old" hard drive.

I am wondering wether I can re-activate Windows on a completely different computer in a completely different version Bit. If I can do it with my retail disks, I will be happy. Can I reuse my current retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium?

Does it matter that I have reinstalled this on my current system multiple times in Bit form? Also, here is a point of clarification in regards to motherboard replacement. This is a direct copy and paste from Microsoft's website: What if it was replaced because it was defective?

Generally, an end user can upgrade or replace all of the hardware components on a computer—except the motherboard—and still retain the license for the original Microsoft OEM operating system software. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created.

Microsoft OEM operating system software cannot be transferred to the new computer, and the license of new operating system software is required. Hmm yes I do read that, however that should not really be an issue for me.

I am going to be purchasing a new version of Windows 7 for use on a new computer, once. I would say that it would be better to keep buying OEM versions, right?
